Learning Chinese in Taiwan can be a wonderful experience. The culture in Taiwan is friendly to foreigners as compared to China, but at the same time provides many opportunities for foreigners to test and reinforce their language learning with experience. The friendships with foreigners in democratic Taiwan are often more genuine than in other countries, as Taiwanese enjoy a high standard of living and a relative contentedness with their own culture as opposed to the escapism in some other countries. This allows Taiwanese to befriend foreigners as people, and not just as foreigners. Most Taiwanese are more reserved than other cultures, but after making a real friendship, their generosity can be overwhelming.
