Why not study in China instead?
While many brave Westerners trek to China in the hope of discovering the Chinese culture, the truth is the Communist “Cultural Revolution” of the 1960’s destroyed most of that culture. Cultural buildings were deemed “Old Culture” and destroyed, and people who embraced their traditions were often sent to die in work camps or worse. Many of the adults alive today went through that Maoist brainwashing that hardens them to foreigners, and many of the buildings now seen today are reconstructed for tourists rather than genuine culture.
Why study in Taiwan?
Democratic Taiwan however is another story. Those Chinese who disagreed with the Communists fled to Taiwan where they kept their culture, traditions, and beliefs in tact. The Taiwanese people are friendly, the environment beautiful, the country democratic with rule of law, and the true Chinese culture has been preserved in Taiwan.
